A Few Questions About Matt

What’s an aspect of your role that you enjoy the most, and why?

Building relationships with people in the .NET community. When I connect with people, I get to learn about what people are working on at work, within their family and what they’re looking for in life. It’s the relationship building aspect that I enjoy, and that allows me to match up people with various clients that we work with.

What’s in your DNA that drives you the most in your work?

I’m a competitive person, so I get satisfaction from finding people that fit a specific task or role that we’re in need of. Finding that perfect match-to-fit personality is what drives me.

What unique skill(s) do you bring to your role?

My ability to simplify things so that I can get a better understanding of someone’s true abilities and not just accept what’s written on paper. I’ve found that if I act as if I know a program well, I can get myself into trouble for not having a deep understanding of it, I then have an appreciation of knowing what my limitations are. So, I work to keep things basic and see how I can match up a person’s skills with our open roles.

What’s one pet peeve that you have about your field or industry?

The lack of diversity in the industry. I love all the initiatives that have taken place, but when it comes time to look at a pool of candidates, I can see that there’s still a considerable number of men vs women that apply and race is becoming less of an issue. Over the last 5, 10, 15 years, there’s been some improvement, but I see that there needs to be a lot more done in the .NET developer space around diversity.

What about your role is the most challenging for you to manage?

Finding people and making 1st contact with them. There’s so much competition these days, so it’s really on me to understand what drives each candidate and what kind of opportunities would be interesting to them and help advance their careers. So, I focus on getting to know each person I talk to and learning how I can improve their professional career.

What kind of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I’m married with a 19-month-old and a newbie on the way, so my family life is busy. There’s always something going on though, and we also have a cat and a dog to take care of. When I have the time for it, I enjoy the outdoors, either playing golf or fishing for muskies. On open water or ice fishing.

Tagline: I’m always happy to make a new connection
